24th May 2021

Monday 23rd May, the Olokoro Clan was attacked by men whose identity was unknown. Unlike previous gun attacks reported elsewhere in some communities across the country at midnight, this attack occurred with matchets and around 9:30pm. This was revealed by the President General of Olokoro Clan Development Union (OCDU) Mr Dike Nzenwa  during an emergency meeting with Autonomous Community PGs held at the Ahiukwu hall Olokoro on 24th May 2021.

Information reaching the desk of the President General of OCDU, Mr Nzenwa, indicated that the unknown men numbering about 12 were sighted at the Isicourt-Olokoro road around the Ihie bridge axis at about 9:30pm, by road users, with torches in one hand and dangerous weapons on the other hand. Reports reaching us has it that the men blocked the road with bamboo sticks, thereby obstructing the free movement of passersby. The Okada riders and passengers who slowed down at that point were brutally injured. At the time of filing this report, up to 4 persons including a lady were given different degrees of  life threatening matchet  injury. They are currently receiving treatment at some undisclosed health centers.  No life was lost in the ugly incident. The Security agencies were who arrived at the site of the pandemonium later

At this provocation, Olokoro youths, numbering over 250 assembled at Ihie community within 30minutes of last incident to wade away the intruders from the Clan and defend their ancestral homeland. It was gathered that the youths, annoyed at this provocation, tarried at  the Ihie bridge till 3am of the following day. They conducted frantic searches in the adjoining bushes in search of the unknown men who perpetrated the assault on their hitherto peaceful community.

The President General of OCDU expressed worries over this attack and summoned an emergency meeting with the autonomous community PGs on Tuesday 24th May; a meeting which is intended to extend to traditional rulers, Leaders of thought and several other groups in Olokoro. The intention is to harmonize the response of the clan towards the security provocation and device how to work with the State Security Operatives to forestall this ugly occurrence.

While thanking God that no life was lost, Mr Nzenwa extended his heartfelt empathy to the victims and wish them speedy recovery . He however expressed satisfaction at the response of the youth of Olokoro to the assault on the community and said that it is an indication of alertness and preparedness of Olokoro residents to protect his homeland. He used to opportunity to call on Olokoro residents to remove fear in their minds and work harmoniously to tackle security challenges in the community.

Hon Linus Ikwulegbu, President General of Umudere Autonomous Community, thanked the PG Mr Nzenwa for calling the emergency meeting and promised that the autonomous community PGs will work collaboratively with the OCDU Excos to achieve the desired results.

The meeting ended after 2 hrs of robust engagement with closing prayers powerfully led by the PG Mr DEA Nzenwa.
